SUNDANCE Q&A: John Hawkes Praises Vera Farmiga for Directing with ‘Grace and Skill’
TheHollywoodReporter.com, 1/23/11
Hawkes muses about life after Winter’s Bone, being labeled a “character actor” and how hitchhiking was great training for his craft.
THR: You’ve been very busy since Winter’s Bone first premiered at Sundance a year ago. You just wrapped another film, this one in Texas?
John Hawkes: Yes, it’s called The Playroom. It’s a very independent film. Molly Parker, a dear friend from Deadwood, and I play husband and wife, but it’s more of a story of our four children set in 1975. Then I’m going to work with Steven Soderbergh to finish up something that I started with him, Contagion. Read the full interview>>

John Hawkes bags two new roles in CHRONICLE and THE PLAYROOM
GordanandtheWhale.com, 1/14/11
GATW is a John Hawkes-lovin’ bunch, and we are always excited when he is put into a new role. He’s not a household name actor, an unfortunate shame because he absolutely deserves to be. Instead, he is often considered an indie film darling of sorts.

Slashfilm.com, 1/13/11
Anything that puts John Hawkes in more movies is OK by me. And the great, until recently underrated actor has just bagged two new roles, so here’s a pair of films to put on your watch list. . . . The Playroom, in which the actor reunites with his Deadwood co-star Molly Parker.
Between these two films, The Playroom is the one I’m really psyched for. Because I like Molly Parker just as much as I do Mr. Hawkes, and because the plot sounds just a bit unhinged. Read the full article>>

The Dallas Observer blog, 1/12/11
I just had the pleasure of re-reading Jimmy Fowler’s 1997 feature on Gretchen and Julia Dyer, who, long, long ago, took their movie Late Bloomers to Sundance, where it garnered raves and, finally, national distribution. I was reminded of it after reading a piece in Variety about The Playroom, which Julia is directing and brother Stephen is producing. Read the full article>>
